Visit the An Garda Síochána stand at today’s Ploughing to hear first-hand from our sports-star Garda members why they think a career in An Garda Síochána is #AJobWorthDoing To mark the opening of An Garda Síochána’s Recruitment Competition this morning, some of the organisation’s best sporting talent will be at the National Ploughing Championships to chat to attendees about why they think a career in An Garda Síochána is a job worth doing.
At An Garda Síochána's stand (Block 3, Row 15, Stand 291) attendees and the media can meet:
• Garda Ronan Maher who captained the Tipperary Senior Hurling team to All-Ireland victory in 2025
• Garda Shaun Patton – goalkeeper on the Donegal Senior Football team who were runners-up in the 2025 All-Ireland Final
• Detective Garda Fiona Reidy – 20 caps on the Irish International Women’s Rugby team
• Garda Megan Thynne – two-time All-Ireland winner with the Meath Ladies Senior Football team
• Garda Aaron Masterson – member of the Kildare Senior Football team which won the Tailteann Cup in 2025
The active nature of working in An Garda Síochána means most Gardaí are not typically desk-based and get to work on their fitness as part of the job. No one can explain this element of the role better than our sports star members.
On Tuesday at the National Ploughing Championships, the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O’Callaghan TD and An Garda Síochána Commissioner Justin Kelly announced a fresh recruitment drive for An Garda Síochána.
The competition goes live today and will run until 3pm on Thursday 9 October 2025. To promote the competition, a paid advertising campaign has gone live under the tag line of "It’s a Job Worth Doing”.
The campaign focuses on the positive impact Gardaí have on people and communities across a variety of policing roles.
The competition will be conducted by publicjobs on behalf of An Garda Síochána. Candidates can apply at www.publicjobs.ie.
An Garda Síochána needs a diverse workforce that reflects the country’s population, and encourages applicants aged between 18 - 49 from all backgrounds to apply.
