Court Appearances – Eight Arrested as part of Operation SKEIN Investigations – 8th September 2025
Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau have in recent weeks arrested eight men as part of ongoing investigations under Operation SKEIN (Jackal).

The arrests form part of an investigation into an international organised crime group whose activities in Ireland primarily relate to fraud, online scams and cyber-crime.

A number of individuals were identified as having facilitated the laundering of money through money mule accounts following account takeovers achieved via smishing texts or vishing calls. Funds transferred from victims’ accounts amounted to over €196,000.

All eight men (aged from their 20s to 50s) have been charged and are expected to appear before Blanchardstown District Court, this morning, Monday 8th September 2025 at 10.30am.

Investigations are ongoing.

Note to Editor:

Operation SKEIN is co-ordinated by the Garda Economic Crime Bureau and investigates international criminal organisations that commit fraud worldwide and launder the proceeds through networks of bank accounts in Ireland.

Since 2020, Gardaí have identified 1,400 potential suspects involved in the theft and laundering of €94 million.

To date, more than 636 people have been arrested as part of this operation. Over half of these have been charged with gangland offences as well as money laundering.

The arrests were made by the GNECB and Gardaí all over Ireland.
