Update (1) Fatal Road Traffic Collision involving a Garda on duty – North Dublin, 11th May 2025

Gardaí continue to investigate a fatal road traffic collision in North Dublin on Sunday, 11th May 2025.

Shortly before 1pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision on the R132 at Lissenhall near Swords where a motorcycle struck an on-duty member of An Garda Síochána’s Roads Policing Unit based at Dublin Castle.

Garda Kevin Flatley (49) was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The motorcyclist, a male and aged in 30s, was transported by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital where he continues to receive treatment for serious injuries.

The deceased has been removed to the Dublin City Mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be carried out by the State Pathologist.

The scene of the collision has been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the R132 expected to reopen to traffic shortly.

Investigating Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings and were in the area at the time are urged to share this material with Gardaí.

Investigators are particularly interested in tracking the movements of a Yamaha R1 motorcycle in the vicinity between 12 noon and the time of the collision.
