Issue Date: 22nd May 2025
Following a review of operational needs, An Garda Síochána Limerick Division will be changing the opening hours of the public office at Mayorstone Garda Station in order to prioritize visible presence in the community.
The public office at the station will be open as follows from June 9th 2025 onward:
Mon-Saturday Opening at 10am – Closing at 2pm (previously closed at 6pm)
Sunday hours will remain unchanged Opening 10am – Closing 1pm.
Henry Street Garda Station and Roxboro Road Garda Station will continue operating a 24/7 public office service, providing round-the-clock accessibility for the public for administrative needs.
It’s important to note that Garda visibility and availability in communities are not limited by the public office opening hours. Even when public offices are closed, Gardaí continue to operate from these locations, actively patrolling neighbourhoods, engaging with the public, conducting investigations, and responding to incidents.
Every hour Gardaí spend keeping a public office open is an hour where they cannot be out on the beat or responding to incidents. Outside presence and visibility is the priority for An Garda Síochána. That is where Gardaí are the most effective - out in the community, preventing crime.
Speaking about the change, Superintendent Andrew Lacey of Henry Street Garda Station stated the following: "From an operational perspective this decision will enhance the response capacity of members attached to Mayorstone Garda Station and will strengthen the visible presence in nearby communities from 2pm daily.”
In an emergency always dial 999/112 and you should use this service if a crime or incident is happening now or if anyone is in immediate danger. 999/112 calls have the highest priority and your call will be handled by trained call-takers. An Garda Síochána operates a Regional Control Room strategy which ensures that local Garda resources are available to respond to calls for service from the public.
