Over 750 Detections for Speeding during An Garda Síochána's National Slow Down Day, 19th April 2024 to 20th April 2024

An Garda Síochána and GoSafe recorded 755 detections for speeding during National Slow Down Day which ran from 7.00am on Friday, 19th April 2024 to 7.00am on Saturday, 20th April 2024.

During the 24 hours of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speeds of 163,146 vehicles, and detected 225 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

During the same timeframe, Gardaí conducting high-visibility speed checks across the country intercepted 530 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

This brings the total number of speed detections between 07:00am on Friday and 07:00am on Saturday to 755.

• 132km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N13 Teevickmoy, Stranorlar, Donegal
• 127km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N13 Listellian, Letterkenny, Donegal
• 127km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N2 Annamarran, Carrickmacross, Monaghan
• 124km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N25 Kilmacthomas, Waterford
• 121km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N21 Rineroe, Adare, Limerick
• 121km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N11 Mt Kennedy Demesne, Newtownmountkennedy, Wicklow
• 117km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N4 Culleen Beg, Mullingar, Westmeath
• 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N18 Clonmoney West, Bunratty, Clare
• 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N17 Lurga Upper, Charlestown, Mayo
• 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N5 Ballymiles, Swinford, Mayo

The aim of National Slow Down Day, which is supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA), is to promote safer driving practices among motorists and to encourage all of society to work with us to help prevent road traffic collisions and to ultimately keep communities safe.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, reduce injuries on our roads and save lives.
