Commemorative Events in the Louth Division to Mark the 100 Year Anniversary of An Garda Síochána – 13th September to 16th September, 2022.

Gardaí in the Louth Division will commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the foundation of An Garda Síochána with a number of commemorative events starting on Tuesday 13th September 2022 and finishing on Friday 16th September 2022.

On Tuesday 13th September, the Drogheda District will have a ceremony that will commence at 10.30am with the planting of a Commemorative Tree and a Wreath Laying Ceremony to mark the 100th Anniversary of An Garda Síochána. This will take place within the confines of Drogheda Garda Station. A display of historic and current Garda memorabilia will take place in the Barbican Centre in Drogheda from 12 noon. There will be a number of guest speakers between 2pm and 3.30pm.

On Wednesday 14th September, the Ardee District will have a ceremony that will commence at 3pm with the planting of a Commemorative Tree and a Wreath Laying Ceremony to mark the 100th Anniversary of An Garda Síochána. This will take place within the confines of Ardee Garda Station. This will then be followed by a display of historic and current Garda memorabilia within Ardee Garda station and there will also be a number of guest speakers on the day.

On Thursday 15th September, the Dundalk District will have a ceremony that will commence at 3pm with a representative party of Garda personnel marching from the Market Square in Dundalk to Dundalk Garda station, accompanied by the Garda Band and Garda Ceremonial Unit. This will be followed by the planting of a Commemorative Tree and a Wreath Laying Ceremony within the confines of Dundalk Garda Station to mark the 100th Anniversary of An Garda Síochána. At 6p.m. there will be a display of historic and current Garda memorabilia in the Oriel Centre, directly behind Dundalk Garda station. There will also be a number of guest speakers at 7pm.

The above displays at Barbican Centre Drogheda, Ardee Garda Station and Oriel Centre Dundalk are all open events and all members of the community are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day at each location.

On Friday 16th September, a Commemorative Centenary Medal / Coin presentation evening will take place in the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, Co. Louth at 7pm for the Louth Division.

Eligible serving and retired Gardaí and Garda Staff from the Louth Garda Division, as well as the families of those who served but are no longer with us, will receive a Commemorative Centenary Medal/Coin. This presentation evening will be a private Louth Garda Division event.
