Operation Faoiseamh (Update) - An Garda Síochána 'STILL HERE' to Listen, to Help and to Protect - 22nd January 2022

Provisional figures published today by An Garda Síochána for 2021 show:

  • An Garda Síochána responded to in excess of 48,400 Domestic Abuse Incidents in 2021, 10% increase on 2020 
  •  An Garda Síochána preferred in excess of 4,250 Criminal Charges for breaches of Domestic Violence Act Orders in 2021, a 6% increase on 2020
  • • An Garda Síochána preferred in excess of 8,600 Criminal charges for crimes involving an element of domestic abuse in 2021, up 13% on 2020

Operation Faoiseamh commenced on the 1st April 2020 with the goal of providing enhanced proactive support to victims of domestic abuse. A 5th phase of Operation Faoiseamh was carried out up to and over the Christmas period 2021.  A key element of this 5th phase was a renewed focus on the enforcement of court orders and the prosecution of offenders.
