Commemorative event to mark the 100th year anniversary of An Garda Síochána in the Cork West Division - Sunday 24th April 2022

Issue Date: 22 April 2022

To mark the 100th anniversary of the arrival of An Garda Síochána to the Cork West Division, a day of remembrance will be taking place from 1pm on Sunday 24th April 2022.

At 1pm, a boat will arrive at the Main Pier in Kinsale, having travelled down the Bandon River, replicating the arrival of the first members of An Garda Síochána into Kinsale.

The Garda Band will be performing outside St John De Baptiste Church from 1:30pm, before an Ecumenical Service begins at 2pm.

A parade led by the Garda Ceremonial Unit and Garda Band will then take place, with Assistant Commissioner Finn laying a wreath at Kinsale Garda station, to commemorate all those who have served in the Cork West Garda Division.  The parade will continue to Temperance Hall where a Commemorative Centenary Plaque will be unveiled by County Mayor Gillian Coughlan after an address by Chief Superintendent Con Cadogan.
