Update - Public Order Incidents, Dublin City Centre, Saturday, 5th June, 2021

Issue Date: 06/06/2021

Over the course of Saturday evening 05 June 2021 large crowds of people gathered throughout Dublin City Centre.  The vast majority of people socialised and enjoyed the amenity of Dublin City Centre in a positive way with a very good atmosphere.

However An Garda Síochána has encountered and engaged with a smaller group which has been persistently involved in antisocial behaviour and public disorder.

Between approximately 7pm and 9pm Gardaí dispersed crowds from Stephen’s Green, Temple Bar and South William Street.

At approximately 9:00pm, Gardaí came under fire from an assault of multiple glass bottles on South Anne Street from a group of approximately 200 youths. Gardaí deployed "soft cap” public order units with shields and dispersed crowds along South Anne Street and Dawson Street.

At approximately 10.15pm, Gardai again came under fire from glass bottles in Temple Bar Square.  Gardaí deployed "soft cap” public order units, without shields, and dispersed the crowd.

Batons were not drawn or used at any time during these measured and considered policing response to significant level of public disorder.

An Garda Síochána temporarily restricted access along streets as part of a normal policing response to a live ongoing operation to ensure public and officer safety, preventing further disorder and restoring order.

No injuries have been reported.  A Garda Vehicle was damaged in Temple Bar Square.

At this time it is confirmed that 10 persons have been arrested for Public Order Offences.

The Public Order Policing Operation has now been concluded and uniform members of An Garda Síochána continue to patrol.

An Garda Síochána is not in a position to provide any further details at this time.  An update will be provided early tomorrow morning.
