At approximately 10pm on Thursday, 17th June 2021, as part of ongoing investigations targeting persons suspected to be involved in organised crime, personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Special Crime Task Force (SCTF) intercepted a van on Oscar Traynor Road, Coolock, Dublin 5.
In the course of a search of the van, cash in the amount of €15,000 was located and seized. One male, aged 46, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in money laundering offences and brought to Coolock Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
During a follow up search of a premises in North Dublin, cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €180,000 (analysis pending) was located and seized along with a further quantity of cash.
The total cash seized in the course of the operation is €153,900. The drugs seized will be forwarded to FSI for analysis.
The man arrested has since been charged with offences contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84 and Section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act, 2010. He is expected to be brought before a sitting of Dublin District Court, Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 1.) on 19th June, 2021.
