Gardai seize €14,500 worth of suspected Cannabis in Ballyhaunis Co Mayo May 1, 2020

Gardaí in Mayo with the assistance of the National Garda Dog Unit have seized approximately €14,500 worth of suspected cannabis (pending analysis) in Ballyhaunis County Mayo.

 

Gardaí attached to the Divisional Drugs Unit carried out the search of a house and farm lands on May 1, 2020 at around 2pm and were assisted by the Garda Dog Unit’s dog Scrappy.

 

The assistance of the Dog Unit was invaluable and during the search various quantities of cannabis herb and cannabis resin was recovered in different locations around the property. The drugs had a combined value of €14,500.

 

Mayo Crime Superintendent, Joe McKenna said "The Mayo Divisional Drugs Unit was established on December 20, 2019 and since that time it has seized more than €1million worth of illegal drugs. In this particular case this past week, the divisional drug unit was assisted by the National Garda Dog Unit, which was instrumental in our search operation”.

Superintendent Gabriel Moran of the Claremorris Community Engagement District said, "This drug seizure is significant in An Garda Síochána’s efforts to disrupt the sale and supply of drugs in County Mayo. It was greatly helped by the support of the Mayo Divisional Drugs Unit and the national Dog unit”.

Other items associated with the sale and supply of drugs were found including a weighing scales.

Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.
