Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a truck and a car that occurred at approximately 9:45am on Saturday 13th June 2020 on the N5 at Belleek, Castlebar, County Mayo.
The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital in a critical condition. The man passed away earlier today, Sunday 14th June 2020, as a result of his injuries. No other injuries to persons was reported.
The road was closed for a time for a forensic collision examination but reopened on the evening of Saturday 13th June 2020.
Gardaí at Castlebar are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users travelling in the area at the time who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) to make this footage available to Gardaí.
