Witness Appeal re Theft & Assault Ballyhaunis, 13th August, 2020.

Gardaí in Ballyhaunis are appealing for witnesses in relation to a theft and assault that occurred late night Thursday, 13th August, 2020 at an Off Licence premises in Ballyhaunis.

During the course of the theft, which occurred at approximately 10p.m. a number of men entered the premises and stole several items.  During the course of the incident an altercation occurred and the staff member was assaulted.  He did not require medical attention.

A Garda member witnessed the incident and intervened and was assaulted, the men escaped the scene in a car. The car was later discovered parked in the Hazel Lawns area of Ballyhaunis and has been seized for a technical examination. The Garda member received minor injuries and was taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment.  He has since been discharged from hospital.

No arrests have been made at this stage and investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward. Anyone who was in the Ballyhaunis area between the hours of 9.45p.m. and 10.45p.m. last night, Thursday 13th August, 2020 and any road users travelling in the area who may have camera (dash-cam) footage should contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
