Further Update - Fatal Shooting Ballyhaunis Tuesday 17th September 2019

Gardaí in Castlebar investigating the fatal shooting of the man at Aghamore, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo on 17th September, 2019 have released without charge the arrested man (80s), this evening Wednesday 18th September, 2019 and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The post mortem has been completed,  and the results will not be released for operational reasons.

The man in his 80s arrested in relation to a fatal shooting incident that occurred on 17th September 2019 at Aghamore, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, remains in custody at Castlebar Garda Station.

The body of the deceased has been removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem carried out by a Pathologist from the State Pathologists Office is expected to be completed today, 18th September 2019.

The scene is currently being examined by investigators from the Garda Technical Bureau.

Gardaí are at the scene of a fatal shooting incident that occurred at approximately 11:55pm on Tuesday the 17th of September 2019, Aghamore, Ballyhaunis Co.Mayo.

A male in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

A male in his 80s has been arrested in relation the incident and is currently being detained at Castlebar Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
