Arrest - Serious Assault on Patrick Street, Cork on the 12/9/19

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 40s in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Patrick Street, Co. Cork on 12th September 2019.

The man in his 40s was arrested this morning and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

A man in his 40s remains in Cork University Hospital where is condition is still believed to be serious.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Patrick Street, Cork close to the junction with Academy Street, shortly after 9pm on Thursday, 12th September 2019. A man in his 40s was brought to Cork University Hospital where is condition is still believed to be serious.

Speaking at Anglesea Street Garda Station today, Superintendent Michael Comyns said "We are appealing for anyone who was in the Patrick Street area from 8.30pm to 9:30pm to get in touch with us. We are particularly anxious to speak to the occupants of several cars which were on Patrick Street at the time of the assault. Also, anyone who may have any mobile phone footage or dash cam footage, to please contact us.”

No arrests have been made in relation to this serious assault and the investigation is ongoing.
