Update - Ballymun Firearms Incident - Court Appearance on the 16/3/19.

A man in his 30s arrested on Monday, March 11th 2019 in Ballymun (Previous Press Release Refers) is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Parkgate St, Dublin 8 this morning, Saturday 16th March 2019 charged in connection with this incident.

At approximately 4.45pm this afternoon Gardaí were called to a report of a male armed with a firearm in the Poppintree area of Ballymun. Garda Armed Support Units and local units were dispatched to the scene.

A male in his 30s was arrested shortly afterwards by unarmed Gardaí and a firearm recovered at a house on Cranogue Road, Ballymun. He was conveyed to Ballymun Garda Station where he is currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

The area around the house was sealed off due to the discovery of a device in the house and the Defence Forces Explosive Ordinance Disposal team are currently at the scene.

Commissioner Harris said: "The Gardaí involved showed great bravery in ensuring the safety of the public."
