Update – Fatal Hit Run Traffic Collison Dublin 31/5/2019

A 50-year-old man arrested by Gardaí investigating a fatal traffic collision on Swords Road, Dublin on 31/5/2019 remains in Garda custody and is expected to appear before a sitting on Dublin District Court (CCJ 2) Monday morning (3/6/2019) charged in connection with the case.

Gardaí investigating the fatal hit and run road traffic collision between a HGV and a male pedestrian that occurred on the Swords Road (N1), at the Collins Avenue Junction, on Friday 31st May, 2019 at approximately 12:20am have made an arrest.

A man (50s) was arrested this evening (31/5/2019) and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ballymun Garda Station.
The HGV articulated tractor unit has also been recovered. 
A family liaison officer has been appointed.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal hit and run road traffic collision between a HGV and a male pedestrian that occurred on the Swords Road (N1), at the Collins Avenue Junction, on Friday 31st May, 2019 at approximately 12:20am.

The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The scene of the collision was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.  A post mortem is currently being carried out at the City Morgue by Acting State Pathologist Dr. Michal Curtis.

The HGV Articulated Tractor unit believed to be involved in this incident was turning left from the Swords Road onto Collins Avenue.  This articulated tractor unit failed to remain at the scene.  The HGV is described as being white in colour.  An image of the possible Tractor Unit has been published on our Social Media Sites.

Gardaí are interested in speaking with the owner/driver of the pictured tractor unit to assist with our enquiries.

Gardaí continue to appeal for anyone with information on this collision to contact them, particularly anyone who may have been in the Swords Road (N1)/ Collins Avenue Junction area between 12:15am and 12:30am on 31st May, 2019.

We are interested in speaking to anyone who may have dash cam or CCTV footage or anyone with information on the movements/whereabouts of the HGV believed to be involved in this incident.
