Update - Serious Assault in Navan, Meath on the 24/8/19.

Gardaí in Navan investigating the serious assault which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, 24th August, 2019 have released the arrested man (22 years) this evening.

The man was released without charge and a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

An Garda Síochána arrested a 22 year old Male, this morning, Sunday the 25th August in connection with a serious assault that occurred in Navan, on the 24th August. He is currently being detained in Navan Garda station under Section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The injured party remains in Beaumont Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Gardaí in Navan are investigating a serious assault which occurred at approximately 3a.m. this morning, Saturday 24th August, 2019 at Watergate Street, Navan. 

A man, 21 years received serious injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin where he is in a critical condition. The scene has been preserved and a Garda Technical examination has taken place.

Gardaí are appealing for any persons who were in Watergate Street area between 2.45a.m. and 3.30a.m. and who may have witnessed the assault or any motorists who may have passed through Watergate Street around those times and have Dashcam footage to contact Navan Garda Station on 046 - 9036100, The Garda Confidential Line 18000 666 111 or any Garda Station.
