Court appearance Limerick drug seizure

A 58 year old man is due to appear at a special sitting at 3pm today 6th April 2019, charged in relation to a drug seizure in Limerick yesterday.


As part of ongoing investigations targeting Organised Crime Groups operating in the Limerick area, a Joint Intelligence led operation was conducted on Friday 5th April, 2019 by the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, the Revenue Commissioners Customs Service, and the Limerick Garda Drugs Unit.

 
A search of two houses was conducted in the Limerick area and during the course of the search, two packages which contained approximately 2.5 Kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €50,000 euro (subject to analysis) was seized by Customs Officers.


Gardaí arrested two men at the scene (aged 47 & 58 years) and they were detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996.


The second man has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions
