€1.3m Cannabis Seizure Waterford 18/4/2019 – Court Appearances

Two Vietnamese men (32 & 43 years) are expected to appear before a sitting of Waterford District Court at 9:30am this morning 20/4/2019 charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants following the discovery of a cannabis cultivation facility in Co Waterford.

The discovery was made when Gardaí from the Tramore Drugs Unit and ASU (Armed Support Unit) searched an industrial premises at Waterford Airport Business Park during an intelligence led operation on 18/4/2019.


Initial estimates put the seizure at €800,000 but following a full examination of the site investigating Gardaí have since confirmed that a total of 1644 cannabis plants were seized with an estimated street value in excess of €1.3m.

As part of an intelligence led operation Gardaí from Tramore Drugs Unit, assisted by the Armed Support Unit in Waterford executed a search warrant on Thursday 18th April, 2019 at 6p.m. at an industrial premises in the Waterford Airport Business Park, Co. Waterford.

During the operation a substantial grow house was discovered. In excess of 1,000 cannabis plants at various stages of growth with an estimated value of €800,000 (analysis pending) were seized.

Two Vietnamese men (32 & 43 years) were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Tramore Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996 as amended.
