Update Fatal Stabbing Co. Clare 18th March 2018

A 19 year-old man arrested in connection with the death of a 23 year old man on March 18th in Shannon, Co. Clare, has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The post mortem examination on a 23-year-old male was completed this evening, Sunday 18th March 2018. (Previous Press Release refers)

A 19-year-old man remains in Garda custody. A 22-year-old man injured during this incident is still being treated at University Hospital Limerick, however his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Investigations are continuing.

Gardaí in Shannon Co. Clare are investigating the death of a male (23 years) in a stabbing incident in Shannon on the 18th of March 2018.

At approximately 2am on the 18th March 2018 an altercation took place between a number of males at the Shannon Knights Night Club, Tullyvarraga, Shannon. Two males were injured and taken to University Hospital Limerick. One male was subsequently pronounced dead in the hospital a short time later. The injuries of the second male(22 years) are not believed to be life threatening.

A male(19 years) was arrested a short time later in connection with the incident and is being detained at Shannon Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.  

A post mortem will take place later today(18th) in the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
