Arrests - Fatal shooting in Blackpool, Cork 7/12/16

Gardai investigating the fatal shooting of Aidan O Driscoll that occurred on Commons Road, Cork on Wednesday 7th December 2016 have made 5 arrests this morning.

Three males in their 20’s are currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Mayfield, Gurranabraher and Bridewell Garda stations and a male in his 70’s  and a female in her 20’s are currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Togher Garda station.

These are the first arrests in this investigation.

Gardaí investigating the murder of Aidan O'Driscoll at Old Commons Road, Blackpool, Cork are appealing for anybody who was in the area of the Old Commons Road, Blackpool, Cork between 2pm and 5pm on Wednesday 7th December 2016 to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station 021-4522000 or the Garda Confidential line 1800 666 111.
We are aware that a number of people who were in the area at the vital time have not made contact with the Gardaí.   It has been established that the getaway car used, a Nissan Almera registration number 01 TS 1312, was in the general Blackpool area for a number of hours prior to the murder.   We are also appealing for any taxi driver, driver or cyclists who have a Dashcam and were in the Blackpool area from 2pm onwards to contact Gardaí.

A further appeal is being made for any witness who may have seen a white Vauxhall Astra van registration number 99 G 12357, a red Opel Astra car (reg no unknown) or a black Toyota Avensis (reg no unknown) on the day of the murder Wednesday 7th December 2016 particularly in the Blackpool area from 2pm to 5pm or in the Killeens area from 2pm to 6pm.

Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at Old Commons Road, Blackpool, Cork this evening, Wednesday 7th December 2016 will hold a media briefing tomorrow morning, Thursday 8th December 2016 at 11.45am.
Media are asked to assemble at Blackpool Church, (Church of the Annunciation), close to the scene. Superintendent Michael Comyns, Mayfield Garda station will brief the media at the scene.

Gardaí would also like to renew their appeal for witnesses. They are interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in or around Old Commons Road, particularly between Blackpool Church and the junction of Pophams Road/Old Commons Road, between the hours of 3.30pm and 5.30pm, Wednesday 7th December 2016.

In addition anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in or around Redemption Road/Seminary Road, Blackpool or Killeens, Cork where partially burned out cars were later found is asked to contact them at Mayfield Garda Station on  021 4558510, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.   Media attending are asked to confirm same to pressoffice@garda.ie

Gardaí are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at Great William O’Brien Street, Blackpool, Cork this evening, Wednesday 7th December 2016 at approximately 5pm. One man, aged in his late 30’s, suffered apparent gunshot wounds.
The injured man received medical assistance at the scene. He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A post mortem is to be arranged.   The scene at Great William O’Brien Street is preserved. Gardaí have located two partially burnt out vehicles, at Redemption Road, Blackpool and at Killeens, County Cork. These scenes have also been preserved for technical examination.   No other injuries have been reported. No arrests have been made.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information, particularly those who may have been in the vicinity of Great William O’Brien Street and or The Church of the Annunciation, Blackpool this afternoon between the hours of 3.30pm and 5.30pm to contact them at Mayfield Garda Station on 021 4558510, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
