Operation Thor in DMR Northern Division in October 2016

Gardaí from the Dublin North Divisional Task Force and Burglary Response Unit,

assisted by armed Detectives from across the Dublin Northern Division,  have just completed six days of action over the last four weeks, under the auspices of Operation Thor, targeting transient criminals moving through the Dublin Northern Division committing crime.

This mainly overt operation consisted of a number of  uniform checkpoints set up simultaneously at entrances and exits from areas of North Dublin targeted by transient criminals. As part of these checkpoints all persons passing through the checkpoint, travelling in cars, taxis, bicycles etc were spoken to and crime prevention information was imparted. Through this interaction a total of 35 persons were arrested for their involvement in crime. 31 were either charged or lodged in prison as a result of outstanding warrants. Charges preferred to date include burglary, theft, fraud, immigration offences and possession of offensive weapons. Further charges are expected pending the outcome of analysis of substances seized believed to be controlled drugs.

In total 105 vehicles were seized from drivers for a number of Road Traffic Act offences in particular no insurance and driving while disqualified. Summons will be issued to these drivers in due course for a number of offences breaching the Road Traffic Acts. These operations will intensify coming to the Christmas period. Members of the public are reminded to lock all windows and doors and activate alarms (where installed) regardless of the length of time you expect to be away from your property. Report all suspicious or unusual activity by ringing 999 or your local garda station.
