Operation Thor day of Action - Kilkenny/Carlow Division on the 6/10/16

This morning, 6th October 2016, at 8am Gardaí began an Operation Thor Day of Action in Kilkenny/Carlow Division.

This is the 8th such Day of Action in the Division. Operation Thor is a multi-strand national anti-crime strategy.  
 
The Day of Action is a high visibility policing operation whose main focus is to prevent and detect high volume crimes (burglaries and thefts) committed throughout the Kilkenny/Carlow Division.  The operation will focus in particular on intelligence gathering, warrant executions, searches, arrests, crime detection and crime prevention. 

Chief Superintendent Dominic Hayes said, "The objective of the operation is to disrupt criminals living in and travelling through Kilkenny/Carlow Division.  Criminals will be deterred from committing crime in an area perceived as being heavily policed. This operation will also assist in the detection of criminal offences through proactive policing activities

In excess of 130 Gardaí are deployed in the operation including 50 students Gardaí from the Garda College.

The Operation is supported by National and Regional Units including the Regional Support Unit, Regional Surveillance Unit and the Garda Air Support Unit.
