<_o3a_p _rdeditor_exists="1">As part of an ongoing operation into the theft of overhead ESB cable which is being conducted by Gardai in Portlaoise a number of planned searches were carried out on residences in the Leixlip area of Kildare yesterday morning (14/03/16).
Gardai from the Portlaoise and Kilkenny Detective Units, National Support Services, Eastern Regional RSU and local units were involved in the searches of three properties.
During the searches a number of items were seized for examination and a male in his 40’s was arrested. The male was brought to Portlaoise Garda Station where he was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. The male was released without charge last night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The investigation is ongoing.
