Arrests - Post office robbery in Leighlinbridge, Carlow on the 1/3/16

Gardaí have arrested two men, both aged 27 years, in connection with a robbery that occurred at Leighlinbridge Post Office, Co Carlow this morning Tuesday 1st March 2016 at approximately 10am.

Two men, one believed to be armed with a firearm and the other in possession of a hammer, entered Leighlinbridge Post Office this morning. They threatened and assaulted a member of staff before leaving the post office with an amount of cash. Both men were wearing balaclavas and fled the scene in a car described as being a white coloured Honda.
 

Gardaí from the Thomastown District were diverted from a separate operation and assisted local Gardaí, setting up a number of checkpoints, establishing a cordon around the general area.

Gardaí then received a report that a white car was being set on fire near the Burrin Manor housing estate, Carlow. The two men were arrested a short distance from this scene and are currently detained at Carlow and Thomastown Garda Stations under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939-’98 as amended.

An amount of cash has been recovered by Gardaí.
