Gardaí at Store Street in Dublin have this evening identified the man fatally injured in a shooting incident in Dublin today (14/4/16).

His family have asked for privacy at this time and will issue a photograph tomorrow which this office will circulate.

Gardai in Store St are investigating a shooting incident which occurred at the junction of Sheriff Street / Oriel Street, Dublin 1 at approximately 12.25pm today 14th April 2016.

When Gardai arrived at the scene they observed a young male believed to be in his mid 20’s lying on the roadway he appeared to be seriously injured. Medical assistance was called for and arrived shortly afterwards. Medical assistance was rendered at the scene and the injured man was subsequently transferred to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
 
At this point the identity of the deceased is unknown and enquiries are ongoing.
 
Gardai in Store St are appealing for witnesses and in particular anyone who may have seen a lone male of strong build dressed in dark clothing who was seen leaving the area on a pedal cycle in the direction of Seville Place and the Guild St junction with Sheriff Street. He abandoned the bicycle at the end of Sheriff Street and left on foot. He was last seen leave Sheriff Street Lower on foot.
 
The  crime scene is currently preserved and will be subject to a full technical examination. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed , an incident room has been established at Store Street Garda Station.
 
Superintendent Kevin Gralton at Store Street this evening made the following appeal
 
"I would ask that anybody that witnessed this shooting today to call  us.  I would also ask that anybody that saw a male on a black pedal cycle on Sheriff Street Lower at approximately  12.25pm today, and who abandoned the pedal cycle on Sheriff Street lower at the junction of Seville Place and Guild Street and then left on foot to make contact with us here at Store St on 01 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station

A male aged in his 20s seriously injured during a shooting incident at the junction of Sheriff Street Lower and Oriel Street earlier today has been pronounced dead in hospital.

An examination of the scene is currently underway.
