Discovery of an explosive device and 4 arrests on the 13/5/15

As a result of an ongoing investigation by members of An Garda Siochana from the Special Detective Unit, Harcourt Square and Crime & Security, Garda Headquarters into dissident republican activity.

A number of searches (20) were carried out in Counties Louth, Dublin and Wexford today. This operation was carried out with the assistance of  the Garda Emergency Response Unit, Technical Bureau, Dog Unit and uniform and detective Gardai from the Louth and Wexford Divisions.

 
As part of this investigation 4 males were arrested. One in his 60’s and the other three in their 20’s. All are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against Act at various Garda Stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.  (Arrested for offences: Directing terrorism, Membership of an Unlawful organisation, possession of Explosives) As part of this operation Gardai have recovered a suspect device in Courtown, Co. Wexford.
 

The area has been cordoned off and the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal  team are on their way to the scene.

 
Gardai have also recovered component parts for explosives devices at some of the other locations searched.

All component parts will now be subject to technical examination.
