Shots fired at Clonmoyle, Rathangan, Kildare on the 19/6/15

Gardai in Leixlip have arrested two men (early 20's) in an incident that occured at approximately 1a.m. this morning, 19th June 2015.

In attempting to stop a vehicle, shots were fired at armed gardai at Clonmoyle, Rathangan. Gardai pursued the car and both men were arrested a short distance away. Gardai did not return fire and a firearem was recovered at the scene. No persons injured in the incident.

Both men are detained at Leixlip Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939/1998. They can be detained for a period of up to 72 hours.

The scene at Clonmoyle between Rathangan and Monasterevin, Co. Kildare has been sealed off and local diversions are in place.
