Hijacking of taxi, Curragh, Co. Kildare 6th June, 2015

Gardaí are investigating an incident which occurred at The Curragh, County Kildare this morning, Saturday 6th June 2015 shortly after 3.30am.

Two male passengers, hijacked a silver coloured Toyota Camry taxi, partial registration 04D, on the R413, The Curragh, enroute from Kildare Town to Newbridge. The taxi driver (early 60s) had his phone and wallet robbed from him. He was uninjured during the incident. The driver was then ordered out of the taxi and both suspects fled the scene.

One of the suspects was belived to be armed with a handgun. They are described as being male, both in their early 20's and spoke with strong Dublin accents. One wore a white jacket and the other wore a green jacket, both had hoods.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information who may have been on Dublin Street, Kildare Town between 3.15-3.30am or travelled the R413 between Kildare Town and Newbridge between 3.30-4am or knows the whereabouts of the Toyota Camry taxi to contact them at Newbridge Garda station on 045 431212, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
