Four men arrested following discovery of suspect device in Longford on the 24/6/15

The four men are currently detained at Garda Stations in County Longford under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

As part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity members of An Garda Síochána attached to the Special Detective Unit and Crime and Security Section arrested four men, ranging in age from late 20’s to late 40’s on Wednesday 24th June 2015 following the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device in a vehicle on the R392 at Forgney, Close to Ballymahon, Co Longford.

The scene was preserved and a safety cordon put in place. The R392 was closed at Forgney to facilitate the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit who  attended the scene. The scene was later declared safe and the road reopened.

A house that was searched in a follow up search has been preserved for a technical examination.

Investigations are continuing.
