Firearm and drugs seizure and arrest in Co. Longford on the 3/8/15

Gardaí have arrested three males in as part of an ongoing investigation targeting criminal activity in Co. Longford.

The arrests were made during an operation involving local uniform and detective Gardaí along with members of the R.S.U. (Regional Support Unit) this afternoon.


A firearm (shot gun) and quantity of ammunition was recovered when Gardaí searched a house in the Ballymahon area. A male aged in his early 30s was arrested at the scene and is detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939. He can be held for up to three days. 

Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €30,000 (pending analysis) were seized along with cultivation equipment when Gardaí searched a second house in Ballymahon. Two males (aged in their late 20s and mid 30s) were arrested at the scene. They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Longford Garda Station and can be held for up to 24 hours.
