Four men charged - Post Office robbery and arrests at Urlingford, Kilkenny on the 20/4/15

Gardaí have charged four men, aged mid 20’s–40’s, in connection with the robbery of a post office at Urlingford which occurred on Monday afternoon, 20th April 2015.

The four men charged were remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Monday 27th April 2015 at 10.30am.  
 
The four men were arrested on Monday 20th April 2015 and had been detained at Kilkenny, Thomastown and Carlow Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí have arrested four men today following a robbery of a post office on Main Street, Urlingford, which occurred shortly after midday today, Monday 20th April 2015.

A number of masked men entered the post office at approximately 12:05pm, threatened staff and leaving a short time later with a substanial amount of cash. A female member of staff received minor injuries.

Gardaí from Kilkenny and surrounding districts responding to an incident stopped a car travelling on the Urlingford to Freshford road and arrested three men aged in their mid 20s.

In a number of follow up searches, a car was discovered burned out, at Ardragh, Urlingford. A fourth man, aged in his 40's was arrested in Kilkenny City at approximately 4pm. A substantial amount of cash was recovered during the arrests and subsequent searches.

The four men are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Kilkenny (2), Thomastown (1) and Carlow (1) Garda stations.
