Update 6 – Cancelled - CRI Abduction – Child Rescue Ireland Alert 13th September 2014

Gardai wish to advise that the CRI Alert has now been cancelled.
 

From our extensive enquiries we are now satisfied that Sait was not abducted. However An Garda Síochána are continuing to appeal to the public for their assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 15-year-old Sait Canbullu who is still missing. Gardai are now dealing this as a high risk missing person investigation.

Note to Editor: as we are now satisfied that some of the key criteria in a CRI alert including "immediate and serious risk to the health and welfare of a child” and "abduction” is no longer present, the CRI alert is now cancelled.

An Garda Síochána are continuing to appeal to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 15-year-old Sait Canbullu. 

Gardai will make a renewed appeal at Garda Head Quarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, at 12.30pm today.

Update 4 – CRI Abduction – Child Rescue Ireland Alert 13th September 2014

A Child Rescue Ireland Alert (CRI) remains in place.

An Garda Síochána are continuing to appeal to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 15-year-old Sait Canbullu.

At approximately 1310hrs yesterday afternoon Sait Canbullu was approached by two males (wearing balaclavas / ski masks) and abducted during an incident at the junction of High St. and Rowe St. in Wexford town. He was taken from the scene in vehicle described as a black saloon car with tinted windows. It’s understood the car travelled in the direction of Wexford Quays. Sait is described as 5ft4” in height, of average build, with black hair and brown eyes. When last seen he was wearing a dark grey tracksuit and blue/grey Nike running shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí on 999 or 112

Please do not approach those involved, instead immediately contact 999 / 112 or your local Garda Station providing as much information as possible.

At approximately 13.10hrs this afternoon, 13th September 2014, Sait Canbullu was approached by two males (wearing balaclavas / ski masks) and abducted during an incident at the junction of High St. and Rowe St. in Wexford town. Initiating a CRI Alert requires careful consideration.  As indicated at the launch of the initiative, media assistance is vital in ensuring the support of the community and the safe return of the child. Child Abduction in the context of these guidelines refers to taking or detaining a Child under the age of eighteen (18) years without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

The legislation applicable to the term abduction is: Section 15 Non Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997, False Imprisonment Section 16 Non Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997, Abduction Section 17 Non Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997,

Abduction CRI Alert will only be launched when all the following criteria exist.

• The child is under the age of eighteen (18) years

• There is a reasonable belief that the child has been abducted

• There is a reasonable belief that there is an immediate and serious risk to the health or welfare of a child

• There is sufficient information available to enable the public to assist An Garda Síochána in locating the child
