Drug seizure and arrest in Co Kilkenny on the 13/9/14

As part of on-going intelligence-led operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Kilkenny and the South East area, Gardai from Kilkenny and Thomastown have seized cocaine and arrested a male.

During a planned operation gardai from the Regional Support Unit stopped a van at Jordanstown, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny yesterday evening at approximately 6.30pm. During the search of the van a quantity of cocaine (pending analysis) was discovered with an estimated street value of up to €560,000.

A 38 year old male was arrested at the scene and brought to Thomastown Garda Station where he is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks. Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities. Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.
