Carjacking incident Palmerstown, Dublin, 20th September 2014

A 31-year-old male is expected to appear before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning (22/9/2014) charged in connection with this investigation.

Gardaí have arrested a 31-year-old male following a carjacking incident in Palmerstown, Dublin.

At approximately 1.30am this morning (20/9/2014) a 58-year-old male taxi driver was threatened and assaulted at knife point by a lone male before being forced from his vehicle. The incident occurred in a car park at a shopping centre in Palmerstown. The car was driven from the scene in the direction of the N4. The taxi driver was taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station where he received medical treatment for his injuries (non life threatening).
 
During a follow-up operation a 31-year-old male was arrested when members of the R.S.U. (Regional Support Unit) intercepted the taxi at a filling station near Maynooth, Co. Kildare, shortly before 8am.
 
The male is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Lucan Garda Station.
 
The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
