Person identified - Discovery of Body in Clara, Offaly on the 7/1/14

Gardaí have formally identified the body of a male, discovered at Bog road, Killbride, Clara, County Offaly, today 7th January 2014, as being Christy Daly, 47 years, of Clara, Co Offaly.

This morning, Tuesday 7th January 2014, as a result of concerns surrounding the whereabouts of a 47 year old male, Gardaí conducted a search at Bog Road, Killbride, Clara, Co Offaly.  During the course of this search the body of a 47 year old male was found in a drain. 
 

The area was immediately sealed off for a full technical examination and the offices of the State Pathologist were notified. Professor Cassidy, State Pathologist, has visited the scene and has carried out a preliminary examination. The body of the deceased has been removed to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where a post mortem will be carried out later this afternoon. 
 

Gardaí await the the results of the post mortem to determine the nature and direction of the investigation. A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and is currently liaising with the family of the deceased. An Garda Síochána are not in a position to formally identify this man until all family members have been notified. 
 

Gardaí are appealing to any person or persons who may have seen any suspicious or unusual activity at Bog Road, Killbride Lane, Clara, County Offaly, in the days leading up to Sunday 29th December 2014 and in particular the days since then, to come forward. 
 

This is an isolated area with limited access. A number of people have come forward with valuable information and Gardaí would encourage others with any information to do like wise. 
 

A caravan and two cars were burnt out at this location. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information or who may have witnessed the burning of these vehicles to come forward. All information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.    
 

An incident room has been set up at Tullamore Garda station and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 057 9327600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.

Gardaí at Clara are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a man in his 40’s in an open area at Kilbride, Clara, Co Offaly at approximately 8.45am this morning (7/1/14).

The State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy has attended the scene and carried out a preliminary examination. The scene is currently preserved pending a Garda Forensic Examination.
