Update - Two arrests in relation to serious assault in Waterford 2nd Feb 2014

A 20 year old man arrested in connection with this incident was released without charge last night (2/2/14).

A file will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions. A second man (22yrs) arrested remains in custody this morning.


The injured man is described as being in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital.
 

Investigations are continuing.

Gardai in Waterford investigating a serious assault on a male(22yrs)at Williamstown, Waterford City on the 2nd February 2014 have arrested two males( 22 & 20yrs). The two males were arrested around lunchtime today the 2nd Feb.

One male was arrested in Portlaoise and the other in Kilcormac, Co Offaly they are being detained in Waterford Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on the 2nd February 2014. The injured male was brought to Waterford General Hospital  in an unconscious state, he was later taken to CUH where his condition is described as critical.
