Fatal road traffic collision at Legan, Longford on the 22/2/14

Gardai in Granard are investigating a fatal road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian that occurred at Legan Village at approximately 1.30am on the 22/02/14.

A 55 year old female pedestrian was fatally injured when she was struck by a car. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to The Midlands Regional Hospital at Mullingar. The driver of the car, a male in his early 40’s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Longford Garda Station.  

This section of road is currently closed in Legan Village to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
