Fatal road traffic collision at Carrickerry, Athea, Limerick on the 18/10/13

Gardaí at Newcastle West are investigating a fatal road traffic collision, involving two vehicles, which occurred on the R523 at Carrickerry, Athea, Co. Limerick, on 18th October 2013 at approximately 7.10am.

A male, 63 years, sole occupant, was fatally injured when his car was involved in a collision with another vehicle.  He was pronounced dead at scene and his body was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital where a post mortem is to be arranged.


The driver of the second vehicle, male, 33 years, sole occupant, was also taken to Limerick Regional Hospital with non-serious injuries.


The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
