Court Appearance in relation to the murder of Elaine O'Hara on the 17/10/13

The male aged in his 40’s, arrested by Blackrock Gardaí on the morning of Thursday, the 17th October 2013 has been charged.

He is due to appear before Dun Laoighaire District Court, this morning, 18th October 2013 at 10.30am.

Gardai at Blackrock, Co Dublin investigating the murder of Elaine O Hara in August 2012 have this morning the 17th October 2013 arrested a male (41yrs) in Dublin.

He is being detained at Blackrock Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

On the 24th August, 2012 the father of Elaine O’Hara reported to Gardaí that his daughter was missing. Elaine was last seen leaving her home Belarmine Plaza, Stepaside at approximately 5.05pm on Wednesday 22nd August, 2012.  

A reported sighting of Elaine placed her close to the footbridge that crosses the railway at Shanganagh Park, Shankill at approximately 6.15pm on the same day, 22nd August, 2012.  

Her car, a turquoise Fiat Punto (05 D) was located by Gardaí at Shanganagh Cemetery at 3pm on Friday 24th August, 2012.    

On the day that Elaine went missing, she was wearing:    

-         navy tracksuit bottoms  

-         white runners  

-         a bright blue zip-up top    

Elaine O’Hara was a childcare assistant, a trusted person. She also worked part-time in a newsagents in Blackrock Shopping Centre and was a very popular employee. On the day she went missing, she had volunteered to work at the Tall Ships Festival in Dublin city centre.  

We are appealing to any person or persons who may have met, spoken to, or engaged with Elaine between the 22nd August 2012 and the 24th August 2012. We are also appealing to any person who may have seen Elaine’s turquoise Fiat Punto (05 D) during this time period.

Gardai  investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains at Kilakee Mountain, Rathfarnham, on the 13th September 2013 have positively identified the remains as those of Elaine O Hara who went missing on the 22nd August 2012.
 
Gardai in Blackrock are investigating all the circumstances of the discovery of the body of Elaine O Hara and are renewing their appeal for anyone who may have seen Elaine between the 22nd August 2012 when she was last seen at Ballinclea Heights, Killiney and when her body was discovered on the 13th Sept 2013 at Kilakee Mountain, Rathfarnham, or anyone who may have any information is asked to contact Blackrock Garda station on 01 6665200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Gardai are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains at Kilakee Mountain, Rathfarnham, on the 13th September 2013.

The discovery was made by a member of the public while out walking at approximately 7.30 p.m. yesterday evening (13/9/2013). The scene is preserved for a technical examination and the Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Curtis is expected to attend the scene later today. The services of a forensic anthropologist have also been requested.

No further information is available pending the completion of a post-mortem examination.
