Operation Wireless III - 5th November 2013

On the morning of the 5th November 2013 Operation Wireless III commenced. Operation Wireless is a part of an ongoing Garda strategy targeting serious criminal activity nationwide, and is coordinated by Garda National Support Services at Harcourt Square.

As part of the operation Gardaí from the Drugs Unit in Tallaght, assisted by the Dublin Mertopolitan Region (DMR) South Division Crime Task Force seized drugs and arrested a male following a search in Tallaght.


At approximately 10.45p.m. last night Tuesday 5th November, 2013 Gardaí carried out a search of a house in Cushlawn Park, Tallaght. During the course of the search 5.5kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of €385,000 was seized along with a large amount of cash and assorted drug paraphernalia.


A 34 year old male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. A photograph is available on request from the Garda Press Office at pressoffice@garda.ie.


There have been a total of 419 planned searches carried out nationwide resulting in 89 arrests for a range of offences including robbery, burglary, theft, handling stolen property, possession of drugs and firearms offences. In excess of 20 persons were arrested on foot of bench warrants. The searches relate to stolen property, drugs, firearms and other types of evidence relevant to ongoing criminal investigations across the country.


Five European Arrest Warrants were executed by the Organised Crime Unit and Gardaí from Extradition Section at Garda Headquarters, for offences arranging from assault, robbery, extortion, fraud and drugs offences. All suspects are due to appear before the High Court.


A search was carried out by Gardai attached to DMR North at a yard in the Balbriggan area. They were assisted by officials from Department of Social Welfare, Customs Officials from Revenue, and Gardaí from the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit, NBCI. This resulted in parts for up to 8 stolen vehicles being recovered. This investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made to date.
