Court Appearance - Fatal road traffic collision in Cork on the 8/4/13

A male in his 20’s is scheduled to appear before Clonakilty District Court this morning at 10.30am charged in connection with the fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N17 on the 8/04/13.

Gardaí at Skibbereen, Co Cork investigating a Fatal Road Traffic Collision yesterday 8/4/13 (Press Release 298/13 attached) are appealing for witnesses to contact them.  

Investigating officers are particularly anxious to speak to two men who were at the scene of the collision and gave valuable assistance to Ambulance personnel. They would also like to hear from the occupants of a light coloured Skoda Octavia that was parked near Hurley’s Garage on Illen Street, the occupants of this car may also have given assistance to the injured.

Gardai in Skibbereen are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N71 Skibbereen by pass at approximately 1.45am on the 08.04.13.      

A female passenger in her 20’s was fatally injured when the car she was travelling in lost control. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to Cork University Hospital.        

4 other people, 1 female and 3 males all in their 20’s were taken to Cork University Hospital. The female is described as being in a critical condition and the others as having non life threatening injuries. The male driver was arrested at the scene but has since also been brought to Cork University Hospital. There were 6 people in the car, 4 males and 2 females.        

This stretch of road is currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
