Aggravated Burglary and Arrests on the 21st November 2013

Gardaí in Thurles are investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred at a house near Killenaule, Thurles, Co Tipperary shortly after 3am this morning (21/11/13).

It is believed up to seven men were involved in the incident in which a family of two adults and three children were in the house at the time.

 
Five of these men left the scene in one vehicle and another two left in the family’s 4X4 vehicle.  Cash and Jewellery were stolen during this incident. 
 

Gardaí were immediately alerted and a vehicle was intercepted at approximately 4.30am near Nass Co Kildare. Five men (all in their 20’s) were arrested and are currently detained at various Garda Stations in the Co. Kildare area under Section 30 Offences against the State Act 1939. 
 

In a follow-up operation a 4X4 vehicle was intercepted by Gardaí at Newlands Cross, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 at approximately 9am. This vehicle was believed to have been involved in the earlier incident in Tipperary. Two men were arrested at the scene are are currently detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.
