Update - Arrests in Cork Suspect Devices

Gardai investigating the discovery of two Improvised Explosive Devices in the Mayfield Garda District have released all three people from custody this evening.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

As part of an ongoing investigation into the discovery of two Improvised Explosive Devices in the Mayfield Garda District three people were arrested this morning the 19/03/13 by Gardai from Watercourse Road and Mayfield Garda Stations.

A male and a female, both in their late 30’s, were arrested in Kells, Co. Meath and a second male in his 20’s was arrested in Mallow. 
 

All three are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at The Bridewell ( Cork), Mayfield and Gurranabraher Garda Stations. 
 

On the 11.03.12 a device was discovered under a car at Mervue Lawn in Ballyvolane and on the 26/07/12 a device was discovered at a house in Kilnap Place, Farranree.

Gardai have arrested a male following an incident in the Ballyvolane area of Cork at approximately 10pm on the 11.03.12 

Gardai were alerted to a suspect device underneath a car which was parked in Mervue Lawn, Ballyvolane. The area was sealed off and a number of houses were evacuated. The Army EOD attended the scene and during the examination of the car an Army officer was injured and brought to Cork University Hospital. 

A male in his 30’s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Mayfield Garda Station. 

The residences were allowed to return home in the early hours of this morning. The car is due to be technically examined by Gardai this morning.
