Traffic Arrangements Northern Region, 17th & 18th June 2013

Whilst there is no event in relation to the G8 Summit taking place in the Republic of Ireland, An Garda Síochána is conscious of the close proximity of the event to this jurisdiction and are working with our colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland to address any policing or security issues that may arise prior to, during and post holding the Summit.

As with any high profile event attended by world leaders, there is a heightened threat/risk, however An Garda Síochána will have appropriate resources in place to ensure the security and wellbeing of the delegates and the community of the North West Region.

In the event of any protest, our focus will be to facilitate peaceful protest and ensure the safety of all concerned.  Gardaí would urge any organisation that plan to protest to contact the local Superintendent in the area in advance in order to facilitate their peaceful protest.

Every effort will be made to minimise any disruption to the local community in carrying out their day to day business and activities in the border region. We will work closely other agencies and with everyone involved and seek the support of the community in cooperating with Gardai and stewards during the event.

At the present time there are no plans in place in respect of road closures or diversions in this jurisdiction.

We are advising persons residing or travelling through the Region, particularly in the areas of South Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan to be aware of the possibility of vehicle security checks on roads leading to the event site, to expect delays and to adjust their travel arrangements accordingly.  While no significant traffic delays are expected, we would urge people travelling during the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday the 17th & 18th of June to allow extra time for their journey.

In particular when attending the following events:

Saturday 15th June 2013 - Bon Jovi Concert at Slane Castle, Co. Meath

45,000 people are expected to attend. Gardaí would urge people attending this event to use public transport where possible. Arrive early, follow the directions of the Gardaí and have a good time.

Please see the website www.mcd.ie for further information.

Sunday 16th June 2013 - GAA match Fermanagh v Cavan at Brewster Park, Enniskillen.

Those attending the match should leave extra time for your journey, as there may be check points in the surrounding counties due to the G8 Summit. Arrive early, follow the directions of the Gardaí and enjoy the match.

Updates on traffic arrangements for the G8 Summit will be provided on this site and Twitter @gardatraffic
