Fraud Investigation in Cork - further arrest on the 10/6/13

Gardaí in Co. Cork have arrested a man in his 60s as part of an ongoing Fraud investigation.

The investigation surrounds alleged fraud in relation to mortgage loans secured on a number of properties in the Munster area. This brings to 7 the total number of persons arrested as part of the operation.
 

The man was arrested today, 10th June 2013, in Naas, Co Kildare and is detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at the Bridewell Garda Station in Cork City.


On the 29th May 2013 detectives attached to the Fraud Investigation Unit based in Anglesea St. Garda Station assisted by local Garda Units searched a number of properties.

 
During the searches 4 males and 2 females (ranging in age from 20s-40s) were arrested. They are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, at a number of Garda Stations in Co. Cork.  All were later released and files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.


A large amount of documentation along with computers, storage devices and phones were seized during the operation. Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €5,000 (pending analysis) were also recovered at one of the locations.
