Fatal road trafic collision on Abbey Street, Dublin on the 11/1/13

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on Abbey Street Upper, Dublin 1, close to the Jervis Luas stop.

The crash occurred shortly before 1.00 pm on the 11th January 2013. 
 

A male and a female pedestrian were injured when they were struck by a car.  Both were taken to the Mater Hospital where the woman, aged in her 50's, was later pronounced dead.  The man is believed to have suffered leg injuries. 
 

The driver of the car, a man in his 30's, was arrested under the Road Traffic Act at the scene and is detained at Store Street Garda Station.  
 

The area is sealed off and the road is closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation of the scene.  The area is expected to be closed to traffic for 3 to 4 hours.
