Arrest of burglary suspects following ramming of Garda car at Swords, Dublin on the 28/8/13

Gardai have arrested two males following an incident in Swords during which a Garda car was rammed and a Garda was injured.

At approximately 3.25am this morning Gardai in Swords responded to a report of a car acting suspiciously in the Cian Lea Estate in Swords, Co. Dublin.

When Gardai arrived at the estate they observed a white Nissan Micra fitting the description.  The Micra then drove at the Garda car ramming it and injuring a Garda. The female Garda in her 20’s was taken to Beaumont Hospital with what is described as a serious head wound. She is currently in hospital awaiting surgery.

The car was later recovered near Talbot Hall by Gardai responding to calls relating to burglaries. Following a search of the immediate area by Garda units, including the Garda Air Support Unit, two males in their late teens were arrested and conveyed to Coolock Garda Station where they are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
