Further Update - Fatal Shooting in Athy, Kildare on the 6/4/13

Gardaí in Athy responding to a report of shooting incident at Coney Green at 8.40 pm on the 6th April 2013 discovered the body of a male lying on the footpath suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was taken by ambulance to Naas general Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10.10 pm.

 

The scene of the shooting was preserved and the office of the State Pathologist was notified.  A post mortem examination will be carried out at 2pm this afternoon by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

 

A family liaison officer has been appointed and the family have been fully briefed.  No formal identification will take place until after the post mortem examination.

 

Gardaí have launched a full murder investigation and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.  Gardaí would like anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Coneyboro area between 8pm and 9pm or between Coneyboro and Leinster Street area last evening to contact the incident room at Athy Garda Station on 057 8634210.
